On a field exercise this fall, we cut small quadcopter hits by rehearsing a layered cue drill — RF sniffers flag, spotters confirm, then optical trackers guide the shot or jammer. Caveat: broad jamming trashed our own nets, so we kept it directional and pre-briefed comm windows; “see, sort, swat” beat “jam everything.” It’s handling drones like a wasp in the kitchen — close the door, then swat, not the other way around.
But we’ve had good results pre-assigning a thermal spotter to scan a fixed sector just above the horizon at dusk, @Santos; that early catch buys a couple seconds to cue the jammer or gun before a drop. RF sniffers help, but in high RF clutter they cry wolf, so we train the team to trust the optic first and use RF as a nudge.
